I am a literary and cultural historian based at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). I lead the project “The Author as Activist: Literature, Politics, and Celebrity“ and am Principal Investigator on the project “Auden Musulin Papers: A Digital Edition of W. H. Auden’s Letters to Stella Musulin“ at the Austrian Center for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH).
Ruth Scobie’s and my edited volume Authorship, Activism, and Celebrity: Art and Action in Global Literature is out now with Bloomsbury Academic. On 31 January 2024, we discussed the book at a TORCH Book-at-Lunchtime event, a recording of which is available.
Together with Timo Frühwirth, I was interviewed for the three-part BBC Radio 4 programme “Three Faces of WH Auden“, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Auden’s death.

Our two-day international conference, “Art and Action: Literary Authorship, Politics, and Celebrity Culture“, due to take place at The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, 20-21 March 2020, was rescheduled as a series of webinars. Our keynote, Benjamin Zephaniah, was live in conversation with Malachi McIntosh on 24 June 2021. A recording of the event is available here
My monograph, Oscar Wilde in Vienna, came out with Brill Rodopi in July 2018. In February 2019 I discussed the book with Mary Luckhurst, Stefano Evangelista, and Dominic Janes at The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities.
